Making a Trek to see the Gemini Observatory
In a recent trip to Hawaii, I skipped a day to the beach to visit Maunea Kea, home of world's largest astronomical observatory with thirteen telescopes. Below is the Gemini North telescope, which uses adaptive optics to provide non-distorted, clear observations of planets, galaxies, and stars. Unfortunately, it was one of the 35 days out of the year that there was cloud cover over the mountain, but on the bright side, we managed to get up before the park rangers closed down the trail due to snow!

Attending Walter Lewin's Public Lecture Series
Having gone to MIT, I had known about legendary Physics professor Walter Lewin, but he had retired by the time I was in undergrad. In the summer of 2012, he gave an 8 lecture series that was open to the public, and was filmed for Japanese Public Television. I jumped at the chance to attend! The lecture depicted below was on "The Wonders of Electricity and Magnetism".
Finding Out the Strength of My Hug at Lakeview Museum: Peoria, IL
I love science exhibits! Museum exhibit designers have done a great job over the last couple of years to make the exhibits more interactive. It would be fun to bring some of these ideas into the school or even have students create an exhibit for the school!
Indoor Skydiving
I saw a Groupon for SkyVentures and I couldn't help but buy it to experience flying in a vertical wind tunnel. I had such a good time that the next summer, I did the real thing!
A Glimpse of My Past
Before teaching, I worked for Gillette as a Product Researcher. I designed and implemented surveys and interviews on next generation products. Yes, I watched lots of guys shave! I helped launch the Fusion ProGlide razor seen below.
I received my Masters ('09) and Bachelors of Science ('07) in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.
Hobbies
I am always up for trying new things. I grew up swimming and doodling. In high school I took up swing dancing and guitar. Last summer I started gardening!
"Geek-Chic" Style
For my wedding, I crocheted little robots for us (the bride and groom) and for the bridesmaids and groomsmen. I just made the switch to knitting and am currently making my first sock!
